Sounds like...[edit]

As one who has the entire collections of both IF and Steely Dan and enjoys them, I'm surprised to see them likened. Sure, they're both bands that use rock and jazz, and feature saxes, but lots of bands have those in common. IF has for me a very British feel and is pretty earthy, thousands of miles from the slick, West Coast feel of Steely Dan. I'd really appreciate the education of a couple of examples of where they're alike.

I agree that If's style was clearly British and earthier, both in their original jazz-based line-up and in their later, more rock-oriented format. However I do think that the early Steely Dan was not quite so slick as their later stuff (I like it all, I hasten to add!), and certainly on their last album, Tea break over ... (1975), If reminds me very much of what Steely Dan had been doing up to that point. I think it's also necessary to remember that Steely Dan's output was mainly studio-oriented (one of the many reasons for their break-up) whereas If was clearly a live band. I would accept deleting the reference if it offends anyone, but I kinda like it - and at least it gets some feedback! 83.180.149.150 22:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have finally seen the light and removed my previous reference to similarities with Steely Dan - not, I hasten to add - 'cos I don't think it's true, but rather because I now realise that it comes under original research. Sorry for not noticing that earlier! Regards, --Technopat (talk) 18:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If opened for Cream??[edit]

It's unlikely that If was ever billed with Cream, since they were formed in 1969 (according to this article) and Cream played their farewell performance in November of 1968. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MikeKolesar (talkcontribs) 13:58, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, that never happened. Cream's farewell concert at the RAH in November 1968 was the end of that band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.111.57.184 (talk) 08:28, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

what did I say about the box, Jack?[edit]

Am I imagining it? When I picked up the album a year or two ago and it got to this track, after the first 20 mins I thought "I've heard this as an intro to some TV or radio show years ago". However I can't find any reference to it. Anyone else remember it? 86.21.120.174 (talk) 17:33, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
