No Publicity Please[edit]

A wikipedia article should not be used for publicity of publishers of Ibn-e-Safi. The senteces in last paragraph ("We are trying to.. ) makes the whole article an advertsiement rather than pedia article. To be blunt, I wonder if the best move would be to revert it to this version. Most of the material added since then by Muhammad Jabran has been copied verbatim from the Ibn-e-Safi website. If that user represents the publishers, it's a conflict of interest to be editing the article; if not, it's a copyright breach.
Information direct from the publisher is, however, valuable and welcome - just not dumped into the article in unencyclopedic form. Tearlach 17:40, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- I peronally feel that articles related Ibn-e-Safi has become too wordy and with repetitive information. Muhammad Jabran has added too little to the actual value of these articles. I would vote to revert them back to an older version. Safi-Fan 20:05, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Official website[edit]

I found the old Official Ibne Safi Web Site at the Internet Archive.

I'm not sure whether to use it as an external link, as sometimes click-throughs lead to the current dead address www.ibnesafi.com, which has porn links. However, the archive has plenty of material for expanding (obviously with caution about copyright) the Ibn-e-Safi and related pages: introduction, biography, family, works, poetry and opinions. Category[edit]

Is a category named "Ibn-e-Safi" really necessary? I mean, all his works can be categorized properly under other names (with articles about Imran Series and Jasoosi Dunya deserving their own categories). --Nastaliq 01:52, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to separate the biographical material into the area of "Biography" and the material about his novels into that area and eliminate some duplicated material. There was quite a bit of duplicated material in the two sections and the material was out of chronological order. The article still needs work. Accounting4Taste 21:58, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Muhammad Jabran has copied material from www.ibnesafi.info and simply pasted here. I have removed material that was a ditto copy. I have also tried to change headings and translations of Urdu words according to Wikipedia's qaulity standards. --Safi-Fan 01:08, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed an entire section of biographic material which is a word-for-word copy of biographical material found at http://www.ibnesafi.info/index.htm. Agatha Christie?[edit]

I am very curious to know where the quote from Agatha Christie -- "I don't know Urdu but have knowledge of detective novels of the Subcontinent. There is only one original writer - Ibn-e-Safi." -- cited in this article comes from. I can't find any reference to it anywhere by searching with Google. Could someone cite a provenance for this? And while we're at it -- from everything I can glean from this article, ones linked to it, and the cited sources, this writer wrote what I would think of as spy novels or espionage novel|espionage novels. The articles about the two series of books both say they are spy novels. But the idea that they are mystery or detective novels is repeated once or twice. Is it correct to say these are spy novels with some mystery or detective elements? Do any of them qualify as whodunnit novels? Should the crime novel task force be involved here? I couldn't find a source for that Agatha Christie quote as well, except a scanned clipping from a very old Urdu magazine that I found on an Ibn-e-Safi fan site (which is defunct now) and that claimed that Agatha Christie once landed on Karachi airport and while discussing mystery literature with some fans, praised Ibn-e-Safi.
Also, I haven't read any book in the Jasoosi Dunya series, but in Imran Series, there are definitely some earlier novels in which Ali Imran is not working with the Secret Service yet, and helps his friend at the Intelligence Bureau to unveil some crime mysteries.

Apart from some lesser known sites, I have found some relatively reputed sources mentioning the quote, although I still cannot find anything more than the quote itself, i.e. I couldn't access any detailed account. The son of Ibn-e-Safi says in this interview with the Times of India, that the quotation appeared in a local magazine - "Alf Laila Digest" (1972) wherein a poet 'Razi Akhtar Shauq' recalled it from a meeting with Agatha Christie. Indianite (talk) 00:11, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
