McLachlan cost Costello in becoming Prime Minister[edit]

I have removed the word "unwittingly" on McLachlan costing Costello his final opportunity in becoming Prime Minister. Not long before McLachlan revealed the deal, Piers Akerman in one of his columns in the Sydney Sunday Telegraph indicated that Howard would handover the Prime Ministership to Costello just before Christmas 2006. This article from Akerman was picked up by the rest of the media and there is no way that McLachlan was unaware of what Akerman had written on leadership succession. Therefore "unwittingly" is not the right word to use on him revealing the deal as it was really an act of recklessness on McLachlan's part. Howard himself confirmed that he had intended to handover the leadership to Costello prior to Christmas 2006 in the Howard Years documentary. Therefore if McLachlan had wanted Costello to become Prime Minister and in light of what Akerman had said about when Howard might retire, McLachlan instead should have waited to reveal the deal until after December 2006 and I am speaking as someone who knows how opportunities can be lost due to what one person has said on the subject at hand. 220.239.167.151 (talk) 22:34, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I remember you well Ian Mc Lachlan when you were Manager of Paratoo Staion, Yunta during 1957/8. I was a young stock agent with Goldsbrough Mort & Co. Boris McLeod, you and I went to a dance together at Black Rock and had a good time. I often wondered if we shared the same great Uncle Senator James McLachlan,Liberal Party, but at the time for some reason I didn't mention it to you. I met him several times with my grand parents, I recall at the time, although being young that he was a very inmpressive person. Hope all is well with you.
