Since this is lyricist Dick Dallas' most well-known composition, shouldn't he at least be mentioned somewhere in the article?Ramseyman (talk) 16:26, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline messed up[edit]

Originally recorded by Nina Simone in 1967 on her Silk & Soul album. Billy Taylor's own version (as "I Wish I Knew") was recorded November 12, 1963 and released on his Right Here, Right Now album (Capitol ST-2039) the year after. His 1967 instrumental take was later used as the theme music for The Film programme on BBC television.

If he recorded it in 63 and it was released in 64, his is the original recording. And what about the '1967 instrumental take'.... is that a typo meant to refer to the 63 recording? Dlabtot (talk) 01:58, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into this. The widely reissued version used for the UK series appears to have been taken from Taylor's 1967 release on Tower (a 1960s pop-oriented subsidiary of Capitol) titled "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free" (with the same bass and drums credited who worked with him on the 1963 big-band release, Ben Tucker and Grady Tate). Curiously, that 1967 release is missing from the cited discography at billytaylorjazz.com. I have been unable to locate a copy of the 1963 release to determine whether the 1967 release was a remix of the 1963 material - most likely not, as the 1967 album included a different set of titles, and the track lengths are very much longer. So the original text appears to be correct and not a typo.

However, the comment quoted in the following paragraph ("This is one of the best renditions I’ve done, because it is very spiritual.") is associated with Taylor's 1996 rendition of the tune. 82.69.10.132 (talk) 12:17, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notable cover versions[edit]

Should this perhaps be renamed 'Cover versions'? There's nothing notable about most of the versions on there that I could be bothered to listen to before a severe attack of the quirges took ahold of me. I could, of course, go through them and subjectively remove the non-notable versions but I don't think that really fits in with Wikipedia's criteria. Besides, the list would just get all cluttered up again.--Deke42 (talk) 13:06, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
