Abandoned user draft[edit]

@Sillyfolkboy: or others – I found an abandoned user draft at user:Italylover90 containing material on this topic and others like it. Can any of it be used? – Fayenatic London 21:45, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fayenatic london: All the content there is now covered in mainspace with the exception of World Dwarf Games, which was deleted as a sock-created page. I'm generally not keen on that policy if the content is valid. Might be worth asking if the deleting admin with undelete if the underlying content is valid. The World Dwarf Games easily meets notability criteria. SFB 23:42, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, SFB. As for that page, let's ask user:NawlinWiki and user:JBW, who deleted it as non-notable and salted the page after repeated re-creation. – Fayenatic London 06:36, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't delete the article, I just proposed deletion, and the proposal was accepted by someone else. It was one little thing five years ago, and I'm not particularly interested in following it up now.
As for the policy on deleting pages created by block-evading editors, yes I know there's quite a number of editors who don't see any point in that policy. However, I suspect none of them has 1% of the amount of experience I have of dealing with persistent long-term disruptive editors who just keep coming back with more and more sockpuppets as long as they think that whatever they do will stay after their latest sock is blocked, and all they have to do is create yet another sockpuppet to carry on, but a significant proportion of whom will eventually give up if they keep finding that whatever they do will just get deleted or reverted. Yes, it means we sometimes suffer collateral damage in the form of losing some reasonably good content, but unfortunately sometimes we have to weigh pros against cons.
As for restoring the article, it consisted of four brief sentences and a table listing dates and cities where it took place. It would be very little trouble to create a much better new article. JBW (talk) 19:35, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW: No worries, are you able to unprotect the title? I'll have a go at writing a new article, which is the approach I took on this article too. Thanks! SFB 15:36, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SFB: I don't know of any obvious reason why the title shouldn't be unprotected, but on the other hand I don't know why it was protected in the first place, so there may be some good reason that I don't know about, and I am reluctant to take action without knowing the reason for the protection. NawlinWiki protected it, giving the reason as "Repeatedly recreated", but the page has only once been created under that title. Maybe it had previously been created under one or more other titles. Maybe NawlinWiki can say whether that is so, but on the other hand she or he may no longer have any idea what the circumstances were five years ago. It looks to me as though the problem was repeated creations by a block-evading editor, and as far as I can see that editor has not edited from any account since November 2016, so I would think that we can now unprotect it. Any opinion on that, NawlinWiki? Meanwhile, SFB, you may like to create a draft for the article, and if you can show notability then there should be no problem with restoring it as an article.
(By the way, if you are interested, SFB, the deletion because of creation by a block-evading editor was nothing to do with me. The only concern that I expressed was notability.) JBW (talk) 20:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As NawlinWiki is not very active, I have unprotected the page. – Fayenatic London 23:13, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
