ILC Dover and it's roll in the development of the Zepplin NT[edit]

ILC Dover's LTA (Lighter-Than-Air) manufacturing group is the sole developer and producer of the modern Zepplin NT airship's envelope based out of Germany, Japan, and South Africa. As of 2008, there are four Zepplin NTs' produced. In September 2007, the South African airship owned by DeBeers, a large supplier of the worlds diamonds, was severely damaged by a wind storm and was deemed a total loss by DeBeers and ILC Dover. the other two airships are flying out of Germany and Japan. The fourth airship is currently under final assembly in Germany as of March 2008. ILC manufactured the envelope in 2007 and shipped it to Germany for final assembly onto the inter framework. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.162.240.17 (talk) 02:00, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

According the the documentary I just watched on the Science Channel, Moon Machines, the history in this article is wrong in many ways. According to the documentary, ILC didn't have prior experience making spacesuits prior to bidding on the NASA contract. After NASA choose the ILC spacesuit, they contracted with ILC, but being that ILC didn't have experience with large government contracts, NASA put Hamilton in charge of overseeing the development. Hamilton's micromanaging produced a product that NASA found unacceptable and cancelled the contract. NASA again opened the contract to bidding, and both ILC and Hamilton submitted a suit, and NASA chose ILC's new design, which had been developed unhampered by Hamilton's meddling. Hamilton had always been the contractor for the PLSS though.Asher196 (talk) 02:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent changes[edit]

The Changes I made were to delete incorrect information and to remove information that had no supporting documentation. The content I added includes a more detailed history of the work ILC has done, including product lines other than spacesuits. I will try to add accompanying photos in the near future. Usually one would write a draft in user space before such a substantial rewrite of an article, but this looks OK. I did remove the list of products as without context it looks spammy. – ukexpat (talk) 21:40, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
