County Standard?[edit]

In the article is the phrase "He played chess to county standard"... I've tried to find a reference for "county standard" without success. Is this a colloquial term? And where? - Rapscallion (talk) 14:40, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"County level chess player" gets numerous Google hits; it would be a UK term (as is appropriate for Good). One of the hits says Elo 2050, which gives you some idea (2000 ish) - but it is probably anachronistic to change the article. Charles Matthews (talk) 19:18, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scope and Length of Quote[edit]

Hi, I believe I.J. Good's full quote on the ultraintelligent machine is relevant and fine in an encyclopedia, especially given Good's later consultancy work on science fiction projects like 2001. I am therefore reverting the recent undo and opening this section so that we can talk it over. Johncdraper (talk) 09:50, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As part of a quote, this is appropriate. Apologies for the "undo". --TedColes (talk) 12:48, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
