Hit the wrong note?[edit]

Should it be mentioned that in the December's Children (And Everybody's) version at around 1:30, right after the solo, Charlie Watts hits the drums on a wrong beat, irritating Jagger, as can be noticed by the asynchronous entry of the background vocals? I was BOLD, you reverted, now we're discussing (see WP:BRD).
The article was/is tagged: "This article does not cite any sources. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (March 2007) (Learn how and when to remove this template message)." (bolding & links left out)
WP:NSONG includes "Songs and singles are probably notable if they have been the subject[1] of ... Notability aside, a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album."
WP:BURDEN includes "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and is satisfied by providing a citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution.[2]" (emphasis in original)

I think this is a WP:PERMASTUB. The fact that it sat tagged unreferenced for ten years shows that there is little interest. If sources only confirm that it exists and a couple of people covered it does not justify an article. I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

After doing a google book search, I couldn't find "multiple, non-trivial published works" that discuss the song. The song is mentioned in some album reviews, however, "Coverage of a song in the context of an album review does not establish notability. If the only coverage of a song occurs in the context of reviews of the album on which it appears, that material should be contained in the album article and an independent article about the song should not be created." (WP:NSONGS). Unless someone can meet the requirements for a stand alone article, the re-redirect to Out of Our Heads (album on which it first appeared) will be restored. —Ojorojo (talk) 15:16, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ojorojo, the song probably passes WP:NSONG due to the version by the Soup Dragons – it charted in the UK, Ireland, the US, Australia, New Zealand, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium. It certainly looks much better now (no need to redirect). I don't want to belabor the issue, but still don't see that the song meets the "Notability aside, a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album" part of NSONGS. I think the two cases are a bit different – had this song been just been written and performed by the Soup Dragons it would probably have passed WP:NSONG because of the charting in multiple countries... I know some text discussing the song would help establish notability, but there must be dozens, if not hundreds, of song articles which have more dubious notability than this one because they charted in fewer countries and lower chart positions (I know that's WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, I'm just saying that if this article was redirected there would have to be an awful lot of other AfDs opened for more obscure songs than this one). A redirect would be confusing as I honestly believe that in the UK at least, to anyone under the age of 50 the Soup Dragons' version is far better known than the Stones' original.

The article for "Connection", however, I think could be redirected to Between the Buttons without any opposition, or maybe even deleted, given that the search term isn't very plausible – it's entirely OR, no individual charting, and it's not like it's one of the Stones' well known album tracks, like "Lady Jane", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "2000 Light Years from Home" or even "I'm Free" itself. Yes, I was too focused on the original – the Soup Dragons took it much further than the Stones. There are many, many songs that were popular, but critics and music commentators didn't write about them. So WP articles can only list releases, charts, covers, etc., which probably describes a majority of song articles (at least the better ones without OR). To me, they're stubs, but others obviously see it differently. I usually ignore them, but being tagged unreferenced for 10 years gets my attention. Maybe a PROD would be better (with an option to redirect in the reason) for "Connection". —Ojorojo (talk) 19:38, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added a couple references, including one that I think helps with notability -- a specific blurb about the song in a list ranking Rolling Stones songs. Dua Lipa Cover[edit]

Dua Lipa, a well-known English singer-songwriter, has just released a fragment of her cover version of this song in an advertisement for a brand of perfume known as "Libre". I don't think she has released the full cover yet. Jargo Nautilus (talk) 13:28, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
