Accuracy[edit]

The issue is that there may be no such thing as a "Hull to York" line in modern times. There is a Hull to York train service (as reference by the Northern timetable linked in the article) - that is a different thing.

The term "York to Hull line" or "Hull to York line" can be shown to have been used for the old route via Beverley and Market Weighton eg :

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=ccxbT09MzhIC&pg=PA190#v=onepage&q&f=false
The railway gazette, Volume 115 [1] p.278 on a section of the York-Hull line via Market Weighton
The railway gazette, Volume 96 http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=iIJCAQAAIAAJ p.314 I should like to pay tribute to the engineering staff of the North Eastern Region for the speedy and efficient manner in which it reopened the York to Hull line after it had been blocked by the recent accident at Full Sutton

In the absence of evidence I think the usage for the modern train service is an invention. It should remove references to the modern route, or provide evidence, or clarify that the article refers to a service, not a railway line. Or something else.

The article also claims A few trains continue through to the Yorkshire Coast Line - this involves a reversal at Hull .. Not true in any real sense as far as I know.Oranjblud (talk) 15:57, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's an example from the Hull Daily Mail: [2]. There are lots of hits describing it as the "York to Hull line", so there would be a case for renaming it in that manner - do you have a preference, or an alternative naming suggestion? Warofdreams talk 16:34, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! I din't think of checking news sites. I couldn't find any more myself, but I accept it's in use. There's still the issue or accuracy, and common use. - ie in most sources the line does not run through Selby, as stated in the lead. Also the route template could be called misleading.. not sure why it has King George Dock on. The issue is a bit fiddly. I'm not convinced calling it a "railway line" is a good idea either (especially when it doesn't even have a set line route).
Also the page says "Services on the line are provided by Northern Rail" - but if the line/service includes taking trains that go direct from Selby to York (as stated in the article) then doesn't this include East Coast HST services. checked this - doesn't I don't really know what to do.Oranjblud (talk) 18:33, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion - merge[edit]

Result was "merge to Hull and Selby"

In fact a 'disambiguation' (short article) is appropriate - since there are 2 historic routes.

This should not be controversial.

I've created a hybrid of disambiguation page and overview page - not sure if it should have a template:disambig or not - if so the use of multiple links is necessary/unavoidable due to the nature of the split coverage.

NB Work on both Hull and Selby Railway and York to Beverley Line is still ongoing - the topic will be coverage in both as it is an obvious one.

Hopefully this is ok
