House of Schwarzenberg or Schwarzenberg family[edit]

User:Gryffindor changed the name of the article from House of Schwarzenberg to Schwarzenberg family. I would suggest to reverse this change. To support my opinion, I would like to provide two reasons. Firstly, it is common in English and German to refer to the leading nobel families as houses. Although there is no specific rule, when one refers to a nobel house or family, it seems appropriate that a princely family of the Holy Roman Empire should be recorded / listed as a house. Examples of other princely families of the HRE on Wikipedia are:

House of Arenberg, House of Liechtenstein, House of Schwarzburg and House of Waldburg.

Secondly, the notion of a nobel house comprises the whole family, with all its branches and cadet branches. As the House of Schwarzenberg was divided several times throughout history and not all notable members derive from the same principal line, it would not do justice to call it just a family.

I am looking forward to contributions of other users, especially from User:Gryffindor, to this conversation.

It is an interesting collection of material: text, infoboxes and illustrations. It needs to cite verifiable references for the text, and the text should be expanded. Bob Burkhardt (talk) 14:43, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Genealogy[edit]

The following people are no members of the Schwarzenberg family, although they appear in the respective Wikipedia article in different languages:

* G1. Hugo Tiberius (* 1936)
* H1. Lukas (* 1963)
* I1. Egon Hildebrand (* 1996)

Schwarzenberg familyHouse of Schwarzenberg – The move from House of Schwarzenberg to Schwarzenberg family was not discussed. See also previous move rationale from 22:34, 9 May 2017. Jklamo (talk) 11:19, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Support. The logic for the original undiscussed move is wrong on two counts. First, the convention "House of" is not restricted to 'sovereign ruling families' if that term implies royalty - see dynasty which clearly implies it refers to nobility of any rank. Second, the German Wiki convention is to use Foo (Adelsgeschlecht) (lit. "Foo (noble family)") for their nobility. The English equivalent of that is "House of". --Bermicourt (talk) 12:22, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Support. What country did the Ushers rule in Edgar Allen Poe's Fall of the House of Usher? There is no "sovereign ruling family" requirement. Nine Zulu queens (talk) 05:13, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
