This article reads like it was written by an enthusiast with little real knowledge of Japanese language or culture. It could use attention from an expert in the subject. LordAmeth (talk) 13:50, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LordAmeth, absolutely right. The assumption of Horimono with Yakuza shows the writers total lack of understanding, that is only one machismo aspect of it. Horimono has many other meanings in Japan, for example firefighters often use(d) horimono showing some depiction of water related designs. Even women till this day have horimono done in Japan. I will go to the library now to find some references to back it all up ... Yama88 (talk) 04:58, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is a further discrepancy that may not be obvious to most. Irezumi is a word used specificaly for prison tattoos and is not interchangable with horimono! Pendodecahedron 12:10, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
