Please don't use 'holiday pay'[edit]

Please don't use 'holiday pay' to describe the concept of 'vakantiegeld'. Holiday pay is the normal salary received for days taken as holidays.

See https://www.gov.uk/holiday-entitlement-rights/holiday-pay-the-basics. "Holiday pay. Workers are entitled to a week's pay for each week of statutory leave that they take. Most workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year."

The Dutch term 'vakantiegeld' (and I assume also the terms used in the other countries mentioned in this article) means something else entirely. As a legal translator I coined the term "statutory holiday bonus" several years ago. This describes the concept much more accurately.

NB Holiday allowance (a term often misused in the Netherlands) is not right either. Holiday allowance is the annual holiday entitlement, i.e. the number of days holiday to which an employee is entitled. See https://www.stafftax.co.uk/news/calculating-holiday-allowance, https://timetastic.co.uk/blog/how-much-is-uk-statutory-holiday-allowance/ and many other sources.
