There are a few questions/comments on social media about the change from the episode count for this series increasing from 52 episodes to 64. I haven't seen an official response or press release relating to the episode number increase, however I believe there are a number of possible reasons for this. If anyone would like to contribute or confirm/deny, please feel free.
Changing the series run to calendar year instead of October-October for simplicity
Take this series to the end of December based on a weekly episode airing, as the Holby production ownership was put to tender with the new production company due to take over in December 2017, hence the changes this series to run through to the contract renewal
