Cabidanne[edit]

I have been searching in vain for an etymology for the Sardinian word for September. It looks to me to be a contraction of "cabu de annu" (head of year). Finding no cognates in other Romance languages I've begun to wonder if it might possibly be a calque of Rosh HaShanah? Or maybe of the Punic equivalent? I saw in this article that Sardinian Jews had influenced the name for Friday, so I figured I would ask. Obviously this is original research but I don't have access to much scholarly information and maybe someone could find such a source that might confirm or deny this. Thanks. Hi Ligata, yes the etymology is correct. The Jews didn't influence the word, though; rather, it was the Byzantine calendar, where the year started on 1 September. Saludos, Dk1919 (talk) 10:18, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
