"In 1889, a motion was raised at a meeting of the New Swindon Local Board by James Hinton, suggesting that in 1909 would Swindon be of sufficient size to be re-classed as a county council in it's own right. The Council investigated this once more in 1913; under the Local Government Act 1888 if an authority contained over 50,000 residents then they could apply for County Borough status, Swindon only narrowly qualified with it's 1911 census reported population of 50,751[2] and became a Corporated Borough Swindon Corporation later Swindon Borough Council"

Problems with this paragraph are numerous.

  • County borough councils aren't properly termed county councils
  • Swindon never became a county borough
  • "Swindon Corporation" was actually formed in 1900 by the merger of the 2 urban districts to form a single municipal borough

I've had to just basically remove the entire paragraph. Possibly if the source was read in light of the historical record above, we might be able to get something else out of it? Morwen - Talk 02:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't want to intrude on any rules by editing directly (I have a direct connection to a part of this article--David Murray John is my grandfather), but it does seem to make sense that his portion not be listed as a subpart of the middle ages section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrickmj (talkcontribs) 01:18, 19 June 2009 (UTC) --Patrickmj (talk) 01:21, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure that the distinction of "Mediaeval" and "Middle Ages" is meaningful? --Patrickmj (talk) 01:21, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
