Adult Centre closed![edit]

I removed the adult centre from the "Schools" area because it's now closed down.

Magna Park is in Lutterworth[edit]

About 12 miles away! Surely it can't be considered part of Hinckley?

er it also has a castle, which is in a nice park (or soon to be nice) which could be considered a place of interest!

Hinckley was also a local centre for brewing, hence the ditty:

Higham on the hill,
Stoke in the dale,
Wykin for buttermilk
and Hinckley for ale.

At the time of the first national census in 1801 Hinckley had a population of 5,158.

The Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal opened in 1804, and by 1863 Hinckley was connected to the rail network, which aided the growth of the town.

Joseph Hansom invented the Hansom cab here in 1834.

2011 Census Data:[edit]

The 2011 census records the population of Hinckley and Bosworth as 105,100 which will also include outlying communities in Barwell, Earl Shilton and Market Bosworth etc but the population of Hinckley itself is not published. I haven't found a total for Hinckley, but have found 2001 figures for individual wards within Hinckley, these being:
    • Castle Ward: 5,922
    • Clarendon Ward: 7,165
    • Trinity Ward: 6,523
    • De Montfort Ward: 9,312
a total of around 29,000, although I'm not sure whether these four wards cover the whole of Hinckley - I suspect not as I've seen a figure of around 45,000 for the town's population. The population certainly isn't the 100,000 plus previously indicated in the article. --Michig (talk) 14:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone is manipulating the figures. An inspection of a modern map certainly also suggests this. I posit that the 45,000 figure includes - for no valid reason - Burbage which was (according to Wpedia) around 14,568 in 2011. In addition, the assertion about Hinckley being the second most populous town in Leicestershire on the basis of present council arrangements is childish posturing and an insult. I would be inclined to remove that statement and the weasely link it references altogether. Take your place at number four in the queue in this county Hinckley. The Castle Pub[edit]

Over the last four years 5,800 pubs including the Castle pub in the Leicestershire town of Hinckley have closed down in direct defiance of British decree. According to the BBC, The Castle pub "must have been a rather splendid establishment in its day. Anyone heading into the town centre would have been attracted by its ornate gatework, [diamond masonry], and alluring entrance." I'd suggest, if you don't want them to remove that text:
1 - you don't use it to link to your website, as that's not wiki style
2 - you provide reference to articles showing that it is recognised as 'Saxon Paddock'
