Footnotes[edit]

The excessive footnoting makes this page very difficult to read. I intend to remove them all unless someone seriously objects. I'll also do a bit of a cleanup while I'm at it. Psychobabble 21:57, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • As a novice to the entire game, I do find the page a little messy. Do make the necessary changes if you think it helps. -le petit vagabond 20:52, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'd prefer a minimum of removal of content from the page including that in the lists, but I do believe the excessive bulleted lists need to be rewritten for a better text flow. -- Jugalator 16:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Soon I'll make a section for each town. pm me if i forget Psychomelodic 15:44, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any chance there will actually be any change, cause this article lacks most things of being an article. For your reference, I added the 'cleanup' tag. Reynaert-ad 22:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really know what your problem with the article was, but what do you think of it now? It looks pretty solid to me. Shall we remove the cleanup tag? SubSeven 01:16, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no point having the Current Event Template when there is a Future Game Template. Xander 00:17, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

  • The current event template was a leftover from the open beta controversy. - Sikon 05:13, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

game is now starforce free

Trails[edit]

I have removed the parenthesis about trails being only present in the Collectors edition pending some references, since it is counter intuitive that a basic game characteristic is present in only some of the versions. Furthermore, it is contrary to what has been said in interviews with the developers and screenshots.

  • But it's true. The trails are a purely cosmetical detail. - Sikon 12:45, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not true - they allow you to determine what heroes have been around recently and their type, even if they have then gone into undiscovered map. It might not be extremelly useful, particularly lacking Fog of War, but it is more than pure cosmetics and, as I said, I doubt it was removed from the non-Collectors versions. Maybe he was thinking of the "Aura" characteristic?
      • It is outdated info based on early developer comments, currently the trails serve no purpose besides eye-candy. As I said, they are disabled in the non-collector edition (I know it's true because I have it). And please learn to sign your posts. - Sikon 18:28, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • While I cannot speak for Sikon or the anonymous user above, trails works fine on my standard edition. - Kuzain 03:29, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
          • Hmm... Apparently I was mistaken. That's weird. Maybe the trails can only be disabled in the collector's edition? - Sikon 06:50, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
          • Regarding trails, there is definitely a check box in the options which cannot be checked on the standard edition of the game. This check box seems to be related in some way to enhanced trails, or some sort of unique trail; the standard trails seem to work correctly and be present regardless of the status of this check box. - Slordak 15:32, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
            • This link (see 5th post on forum) seems to tell us that the checkbox spoken of above was subject to erroneous translation and should really refer to a special aura around heros that is indeed Limited Edition only. Hope that helps all. ~ Gertlex 00:16, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
              • I have the standard edition of the game, and on the options screen, there is a greyed-out checkbox beside hero trails. For me, hero trails only appear when I have a particularily large army, which makes a lot of sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by F50 Man (talkcontribs) 18:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dungeon[edit]

I've removed the reference to the Dungeon being new to HOMM. It was present in HOMM 3, and therefore isn't new at all. I've also cleaned up the grammar/spelling in one or two of the city descriptions. Taear 01:20, 19th May 2006 (GMT)

Points[edit]

I don't think Starforce is on the Russian game either. Plus, I thought battlefields did not resize any more...?

Two battlefield sizes are used, a regular one for most battles and a larger (I think 14x14) one for sieges. ~Gertlex 22:32, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Summoning[edit]

If I summon elementals or a phoenix, and all my combat units except for the summoned creatures are killed during the fight, is it considered to be a loss? What if I don't put all of my creature stacks on the field? Still a loss?

When I've played against a computer enemy and I've killed all his creatures but not all his summoned/gated creatures, it was considered a loss for him. I won and the summoned/gated creatures merely vanished at the end of combat. -LMG —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.191.169.189 (talkcontribs)

Having a stack off the battlefield and only having summoned/gated creatures on the battlefield is indeed a loss. I actually checked that this morning after reading your question... Note that using Raise Dead on a dead stack of your creatures does count as having monsters alive, but they'll still die at the end of combat. (Yes, you could beat the opponent and then lose your hero) ~ Gertlex 20:40, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heroes?[edit]

One thing that annoyed me about HIV was that the heroes were legit targets, and that you could battle on without a hero. Is it still the same? --Irishpunktom\talk 14:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, those changes were done away with. SubSeven 18:53, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
did you notice how I appeared to be speaking about aids there.. oops. Anyway, thank you! I have just ordered the game

--Irishpunktom\talk 15:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Call me a weirdo, but I actually preferred the way it worked with heroes in Heroes IV. Noneofyourbusiness 20:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So funny?Try to include something for the article than to joke for HIV. 82.114.81.149 18:32, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Start-Class rating[edit]

While the page is relatively long, there is few information about the game itself, which is why I don't think it's a B-Class. --VPeric 20:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just for a general idea from your views, what "information about the game" should be included? ~Gertlex 22:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit and cleanup is in order.[edit]

This page is outdated, and has a lot of incorrect data.

I removed "Mac OS X' from the platforms box. The game is not available for the Mac and, as far I know, there is not even an announced release date. I left the Freeverse reference to being the OS X developer up since they may actually be making a Mac port. Patrick80639 01:16, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Story[edit]

In this game theres a story,so in this article theres no info for its story.I think any game article needs a story description. 82.114.81.146 20:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is a good reason why there is not much of a reference about the story. That's because the story is among the main reason why so many fans dislike H5.

This article here is stub. I think here people are always lazy!

Release date[edit]

I find May 19th listed as release date for UK and Russia (the article messes them up big time), and May 23rd for USA and Canada. Can someone fix the dates? byeee 11:15, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Random Maps... a Bad Thing?[edit]

It says (said) that random maps are one of the negative things about HOMM V. How the heck is that negative? Unless someone explains, random maps are going to be put into the positive praise paragraph. --76.188.148.173 00:23, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It shouldn't be in either such section. It should be discussed as an included feature. ~Gertlex 22:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, random maps couldn't be a bad thing... They could be considered neutral, I suppose, but there is no downside to simply having more maps! I wonder who did that, and if it was vandalism or actual oppinion..? --The F50 Man 18:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually i think they meant that the RMG sucked at making maps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.226.105.89 (talk) 12:13, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Elves[edit]

Their society is built around... ism? Pacifism? Feminism? Cubism? Mornmonism? The New York band Ism? International School Moshi, Tanzania? 81.233.196.49 (talk) 14:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is definitely something missing there. Anyone have a clue? I'm removing that part till the author or whoever comes up with what it is supposed to be. Jenda (talk) 18:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The dark elves combine elements of sado-maschocism-sex fetish-isms. The Minotaurs have nipple rings (why?!?!?!), and muzzles (bondage gag wear?), the witches dress like someone's dominatrix fantasies (every "dominatrix" I ever met was a fat bitch), and the assassin looks like a Japanese mask-fetisher. The Inferno camp includes succubi with glowing yellow pubic hair. I like the game, I think the graphics are great, but parts of it are a little too racy.

Storyline reboot[edit]

I'm having trouble deciding whether to post this question here or in the article describing the entire M&M universe, but I guess I can post it here, since it has a direct connection to this game. The entire storyline of HoMM was rebooted with this game. Isn't that worth mentioning? And is there any official statement from Ubisoft or Nival regarding why they decided to drop the existing storyline in favor of a new one? Broadbandmink (talk) 18:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning that the storyline was rebooted starting with this game is appropriate material for the article, as long as you can cite it with verifiable references.
Ubisoft (or Nival) "rebooted" the storyline because they felt the previous one had become too convoluted to follow. Apparently, many fans agreed. But don't take my word for it. Find a verifiable reference that gives a definitive answer. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 19:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AI turn slow in skirmishes should be mentioned.[edit]

This is the major bug which should be mentioned. In random scenarios AI turn is very slow ,it is around 3-4 minutes long and according to some it can be up to 20 minutes! It is frankly impossible for some to complete a single scenario.I have been reading a lot on this matter and it seems that beatified visuals draw too much of game resources which leads to slow AI turns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edelward (talkcontribs) 11:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Install the updates. I know there are 6 of them, but I only found the first 3 on the official site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.113.49.126 (talk) 05:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Inferno hero description[edit]

The inferno section mentions that Agrael is They are the protagonists of the second act of the campaign, where they are led by ambitious and ruthless Agrael. Yet in that campaign he basically gives up his position of power in Sheogh, sacrificing any chance of ever really ruling anything there, he even gives up being a demon (revealed later). He actively tries to stop the demon sovereign's plans for no personal power gain. If anything he is "pragmatic and driven". 60.230.220.129 (talk) 05:35, 4 January 2012 (UTC)LogiC[reply]
