Images in commons now[edit]

Thanks for the article, Zscout :). A great idea and lots of work! You should have gotten several Wiki-national awards by now :). Suggestion, as per Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Ukraine/Ukraine-related_Wikipedia_notice_board#Ukrainian_copyright_law.27s_very_important_excemption should we move images to commons? I retagged them with PD already. There is a problem, though. Once I copied PD images from en-Wiki to commons, and the article continued to call en-wiki images. Probably, they need to be deleted or renamed (or renamed and then deleted) in order for 'media images to get loaded when called for. regards, --Irpen 01:14, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

Yes, we can move them to the Commons. There are two other images on the article that I drew: the ribbon bar and the conjectured/unofficial medal design. I released those as public domain, so those can be moved too. As for the Wiki-national awards, I was given two Barnstars of National Merit: once for Russia and once for Belarus. As for the article, your quite welcome. I am trying to see if I can get this along the same lines as Hero of Belarus, but I know the Hero of Ukraine was given out more than 5 times. I also need to add some comparisons to other former USSR hero titles. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 03:02, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, could you please handle the move to commons? Because I am confused as per above. The only solution I can think that would force articles to use the commons rather than enwiki image is to have them under different filenames with enwiki images placed in line for deletion. Not too elegant. Are there better ways? --Irpen 03:17, July 21, 2005 (UTC)
I have done this before. What I will do is this: upload every image to the Commons, but with the same filename. I will speedy delete the images on here, and once they are deleted, the Commons image will appear instead. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 03:19, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on the article[edit]

I list the comments without making changes myself right away. Creation:

  • "signed into law" has very precise meaning. The president cannot sign his own edict into law. Better to say that "the title was established".
  • what is the difference between "grade" and "class"? Please, use the same terminology
  • "Order of the Nation" is wrong. It must read "Order of the State" (орден Держави).
  • reference to Hero of S.S. and Hero of Soc. Labor looks like POV.
    • The HSU and HSL reference was made by me, since they also had a two tier system. The Order of the Gold Star can be compared to the HSU on basis for who it is awarded to and on the criteria. Same with the Order of the State and the HSL. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 05:20, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I fixed the Nation part, though I need to re-upload the image to reflect the new name. I changed the part about the creation and I replaced all mentions of "class" with grade. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 05:26, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Could you, please, wait about 10 min or so? I am writing the comments section by section and get "edit conflicts" when we post stuff simultaneously.Sashazlv 05:29, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regulations

  • it is not clear from the first sentence whether the article is on the "Hero of Ukraine" title or on some unspecified "Order" (Golden Star or Order of the State?). I am afraid many readers might be confused.
  • please, split the second paragraph in two or rearrange it.
  • "Chapter 1". It would be a good idea to mention that the "Hero of Ukraine" distinction has its own statute. This is a chapter from the statute, not the presidential edict.
  • info about Lobanovsky: just mention the fact and put the rest into

FA concerns[edit]

This article could use some referencing improvements. There are places that would be helped by having additions of cites, to satisfy verifiability for the reader. If not objected to by significant contributors to the article, I would be willing to identify some of these deficient locations in the article with {{fact}} tags. However, it might be best to address in the form of WP:FAR, and give the article a more thorough overall review. -- Cirt (talk) 21:11, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
