Suggested improvements for consideration[edit]
There are some major issues with this article, including its tone which is non-encyclopedic in places. I note that the primary editor has a clear COI and as explained at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, really shouldn't be contributing to the article. Some additional comments:
- Discrepancy between lead and first paragraph regarding place of birth
- There is some excessive and trivial detail, and information should be expressed more in a summary style.
- It is important that sources be independent of the subject. This means that "Singapore Slip" shouldn't be used as a source for factual material since Plenty authored it. The autobiography can be used for his opinions, so long as not presented in Wikivoice. e.g. express as "According to his autobiography, Plenty believed..." Same point applies to the interview.
These are just starting points, there are other problems but really the prose needs a good working over first. Zawed (talk) 10:38, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Concur. I have several sources that mention Plenty and am happy -- when time allows -- to go over the article for prose, tone and referencing. It'd be best if the COI editor stepped back from the article now. If they have any reliably sourced content to add, they can bring it up here on the talk page and disinterested editors can evaluate and incorporate into the article as appropriate. - Thank you Ian. I have added additional sources to the article and removed references to the autobiography, although kept it in the bibliography. Additional sources are RAAF unit history sheets and personnel file from the National Archives of Australia. In addition, all of the published books in the bibliography include direct references to Plenty and the events described, including corroborating witnesses.
