Village not town[edit]

Hemsby is a village not a town so please don't refer to a town centre or town facilities as this could get confused with Great Yarmouth. Gingerblokey 12:42, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Houses" destroyed?[edit]

The things destroyed in the 2013 storm were large beach huts, not houses. The images of them showed that they all had felted roofs and were made of wood, like garden sheds. (One of them could be seen to be of timber frame construction but with a decorative brick-effect veneer). They were right on the edge of the beach, among sand dunes. You had to walk or drive over the sand to get to them - they did not have any roads. I expect that the plots originate from the 1920s before planning permission, which meant that you are not prevented from living in them all year around if you wish. There are lots of shanty-town style holiday huts in that area, the rest of them are not right on the edge of the beach as the lost ones were.

I heard the TV reporter repeatedly referring to them as "houses", yet this is misleading and dishonest. It was done to make the story more dramatic and sensational. 2.101.1.164 (talk) 13:13, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
