Tribal use[edit]

I remember reading about native American or African people deliberately exposing their testicles to sunlight. I don't have any sources but a section on how this might be one of the first contraceptive methods ever used by mankind would be a nice addition.

Request for more information[edit]

I am deeply interested in this method. Any information on why it is not considered as safe enough (“experimental method”)? Could we have more information about its use in Turkey?

To move this out of the "experimental" category would require at least 2-3 trials each involving several hundred men and lasting for at least six months per trial. That would cost a significant amount of money. No company could make money off this method (too easy to replicate at home for cheap), so there is no incentive to pay for research.

That said, I have seen significantly more information about this type of method than is currently in this article. You might continue to look for information through the internet and databases such as PubMed, and add whatever you find to this article. Lyrl^Talk _C 00:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems likely that the effectiveness of this technique varies substantially from man to man, with some men recovering fertility promptly, and others taking months to recover. This could limit its desirability in practice, because you'd be unlikely to know where your own recovery fell on the overall spectrum. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:25, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
