Game?[edit]

Is this truly a game? 72.231.24.134 (talk) 21:58, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Origin?[edit]

Do we have any sources relating to the origin of this game? Specifically I'm wondering if it originated with Goethe's Faust (in which Gretchen picks petals off a flower while questioning Doctor Faustus' love) or if that was merely the text that made this game a touchstone of Western culture. Are there any indicators that Goethe was borrowing it from an earlier source or from a pre-existing French game, or was it an original touch by him? I suspect that things like this are more likely to originate in popular folklore than high literature. One of the images in commons:Category:Decision of the flower is pre-Goethe... AnonMoos (talk) 02:00, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
