Post Nominals[edit]

Harry Smith's Post nominals are SG MC as recorded in his Statement Of Service in CARO. The MC was removed from this page last year by someone who was not aware that he was permitted to keep and wear the MC as it could not be taken away unless de-gazetted in London, having been awarded by HM The Queen in December 1966, Gazetted London Gazette March 1967. The SG awarded in 2008 was from the 1991 Australian Honours system, and became an additional award, as applied to a number of people in the 1998 EOWL Review. This might be considered unusual, but there is precedence from WW1 in that some soldiers awarded the MID in 1914-15 were upgraded to the MM when minted in 3/1916 and were permitted to keep and wear both.

This page, to be correct, needs to be amended accordingly. 23:53, 1 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.231.32.171 (talk)

You may well be right. All I ask for is a reference that actually proves this (something verifiable pls). Given your comment perhaps you have something that could be used for this. As you say above this "might be considered unusual", and the only references I can find which deal with the issue of Smith's awards state that he was required to return the MC. The authors of these references may have been unaware of the issues you highlight so it is quite likely they could be wrong (or just not up to date). FYI - this has been discussed fairly extensively here [1]. Anotherclown (talk) 06:22, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Stand down - I can see you have added a ref to the nominal roll which lists both awards. Happy with that. Wonder if a discussion of the issue of his dual award (SG and MC) could be worked into the article somehow? Would certainly be an interesting addition.
