I thought I read somewhere that the "A" was not followed by a period because it wasn't an actual initial. Anyone know about this? Postdlf 17:26, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jr.[edit]

An anon IP changed the "Jr." to a "Sr." in both the lead and in a published article's title (!) today. Despite his claims, however, and as the 6/22/2002 article "Harry "A" Chesler, Jr.: Comic Book Entrepreneur" by Jon Berk states, "Starting in 1941, Chesler books proclaimed on every [sic] cover: “Harry 'A' Chesler, Jr. World's Greatest Comics.” This is clearly visible on this cover of Bulls Eye Comics #11, and it reads "Harry "A" Chesler Jr. Features Syndicate, N.Y." on this cover of Captain Battle #3. And the publisher's indicia for Dynamic Comics reads "Harry 'A' Chesler Jr.

I'm not sure if this was a well-meaning error or a deliberate hoax, but Chesler's own publications used "Jr." --Tenebrae (talk) 18:36, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The anon changer was not me, but I have made a similar change with hopefully sufficient citations. I hadn't thought to post something here beforehand as the body of the article makes it clear that Harry "A" Chesler and Harry A. Chesler, Jr. were separate people, and the former was the publisher, so I figured I was just fixing a typo. I can dig up further evidence if needed. It's a very frequent error. The Statement that I referenced lists them both as separate people. Jr. is listed as the "owner", but Statements regularly list a family member, most often the wife, as owner for tax reasons. -- Ixat totep (talk) 01:43, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
