The competition[edit]

Who exactly held this architectural competition? The city? The PV sentences do not reveal who. Mabsal (talk) 01:52, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Architectural details[edit]

While all those mentions to architectural styles are nice, I shouldn't have to read the entire articles of each style and stare at the building to guess what the supposed influence is. It would be nice if someone who knew more about this could make these sentences say something like: The influence of the F style can be seen in the G elements of the library, mostly in the curvy H whatevers and the I styling of the doors. You know, give me a hint and explain. This would also flesh out these horrendously short sub sections. Mabsal (talk) 01:56, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It says the influences are Mannerist and Beaux-Arts but both terms come from a single reference that looks like a student article. I'm not by any means an architectural scholar, but the building looks more Sullivanesque and Post-Modern than Beaux-Arts and Mannerist. Alphachimera (talk) 15:55, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's a god-awful monstrosity. The article should report the consensus of reviews, all of which call it derivative, a historicism, ugly, etc. The only positive reviews are for its interior, which is well designed for its purpose as a library. Speciate (talk) 17:56, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, Why Architecture Matters: Lessons from Chicago claims that it and Navy Pier renovation means that Chicago "forfeited its title as the nation's architectural capital". Speciate (talk) 07:14, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's one opinion, hardly a consensus. More, please. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:14, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kent Bloomer[edit]

Hi, I'm making a page for Kent Bloomer and adding a link to his name in this article. He has several well known works of ornament and is an influential proponent of ornament in the architectural world. Hillbillyhoboken (talk) 19:25, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
