inventing?[edit]

"best known for inventing the so-called Shapiro polynomials". Do mathematicians invent polynomials? The linked article says he first studied them. Without taking sides in a debate of the philosophy of mathematics, could this be rewritten as "best known for his studies of ...."? And "so-called"? So-called by whom? I suggest this phrase be rewritten as "best known for his foundational studies of the class of polynomials named after him, the Shapiro polynomials" or, more succintly, "best known for his foundational studies of the eponymous Shapiro polynomials".--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 17:27, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
