That thing about "unstable electricity" seems a bit fluffy. There's no explanation or theory as to why and how an unstable electricity supply can cause a computer to hang.

True, but I would like someone to research this.. because I definitely have unstable electricity (monitor flickers and everything) and that might explain why my computer hung ALL the time (recently it's just plain broken).

Sound immensely dubious to me, I've removed it (and added some explanation as to why newer systems hang less). Dave 15:12, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Freeze?[edit]

Fix the Freeze Ref[edit]

For me at least (Australia), hang is the more common term. In any case, this line needs to be fixed:

The term "hang" is synonymous with "freeze," the more commonly used term.

If that is so (I don't believe it to be, but not going to fight it), the article should be at freeze. Otherwise, the line should be removed.. as it is, it makes it seem like wikipedia's a bit unstable. Themania 10:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

capital punishment line?[edit]

Line at top of the article says "This article is about the computer malfunction called hanging. For the capital punishment, see hanging". easy fix[edit]

Does your mouse freeze or unwanted adds pop up due to spyware? Is it because u surf wierd news articles like those wacky picture illusions>? Since microsoft was dumb enough in making two os's in one (basically its a desktop+network ie running all the time), anyone can penetrate it. Well here is an easy fix, first you back u or take screen shots of your pc. Then you simply reinstall and keep your o/s. This time though, reinstall with the network cable plugged out (as these stupid bugs tend to jump from o/s even during setup). Simply delete your previous windows installs, and keep all your data. Why is there a "clarification needed"?

If the multitasking is done pre-emptive, non-terminating loops don't cause huge problems, because the OS takes away control every now and then and is therefore able to close the evil process.

Also, yielding is not required, as it would be with cooperative multitasking. 92.76.108.241 (talk)
