Finance?

It says he studied finance in college. That seems a little unlikely, business education is relativly new. Colonial universities, were all liberal arts and divinity schools.

My source claimed "finance", but I just noticed that the Alexander Hamilton article claims he first studied there to become a medical doctor. Anyone who wishes to confirm one or the other is welcome to correct whichever articles needs it. — Eoghanacht talk 16:41, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Copyvio

Much of this text is copied from the NPS web site and the other reference verbatim. I'm amazed this snuck through the Did You Know process. --216.49.153.98 13:18, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Those sources are in the public domain. — Eoghanacht talk 13:34, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Improvements to article

When I started this article, I was left with some unanswered questions. If any editor out there can find the answers, and incorporate them into the article, it would be most welcomed.

  • Where was the house originally? (It was in the general area, but an address or lat/long would be helpful — a scan of an historic map would be awesome.)
  • What is at the original site now?
  • When was the structure moved?
  • Does the house still contain original furnishings?

Changing infobox

It seems to me that the NRHP infobox would be far better suited to this article than the protected areas one. So I will make that change. Daniel Case 03:45, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Hamilton's Mother?

According to Chernow's biography of Hamilton, his Mother died when he was 13 so it is not possible she lived at the Grange. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.97.217.4 (talk) 21:00, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Coordinates

The Coordinates are wrong. In GoogleEarth is the location of the Grange on the other side of the road between the church and the appartment-building. Does someone know the coordinates of the new location? --Druffeler (talk) 10:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Names of the building

See the following references, in response to maintenance tags added today, requesting citations for "also known as The Grange or Grange Mansion":

  • Dunlap, David W. (June 8, 2008). "Witnessing a House, and History, on the Move". The New York Times. Alexander Hamilton's country home, the Grange
  • Rothstein, Edward (September 15, 2011). "Museum Review: A Founder's at Home". The New York Times. ...that Hamilton purchased here and named the Grange
  • "Wedding of Miss Emily Pierrepont Gould". Brooklyn Life. Brooklyn, New York. January 23, 1915. p. 14. the Rev. and Mrs. Oldham will live in the historic Hamilton Grange Mansion, one time the residence of Alexander Hamilton {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |subscription= ignored (|url-access= suggested) (help)
  • New York Board of Estimate and Apportionment (1906). Minutes of the Board of Estimate and Apportionment of the City of New York, Financial and Franchise Matters, Volume 1. p. 2. suggested that the Hamilton Grange mansion be acquired

"The Grange" is well enough supported. I'd agree that there's not really enough support for "Grange Mansion" alone, but as "Hamilton Grange Mansion," it's acceptable. I don't think either name requires an inline reference; this talk page discussion provides adequate support for an uncontroversial matter. Lwarrenwiki (talk) 21:53, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
