Aston Martin[edit]

Hadleigh did in fact drive an Aston Martin in the 1973 series, which Clive James was reviewing in the Observer in August 1973 per the quote. But the supposed quote from Clive in the article is bogus, it's an amalgam of a couple of different things he said. The H-reg 1969 Monteverdi certainly appeared in the 1971 series (the one with Jane Merrow co-starring), but it had not surprisingly been replaced by a newer Aston Martin in the 1973 series (the one with Hilary Dwyer) and the Aston appeared in the opening title sequence.
