BRNC[edit]

I have seen no evidence from RN sources to support the assertion that BRNC is HMS Dartmouth. All RN sources which I have found refer to BRNC Dartmouth. I propose to revert that change, unless anyone can point us at a reliable source. David Biddulph (talk) 17:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have eventually found one reference [1] on the MoD website. The term is not regularly used, but if it is officially true then I'm happy to let the page stand. David Biddulph (talk) 18:10, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not only was BRNC HMS Dartmouth, the name was used by the Second World War era naval base at Dartmouth. HMS Dartmouth II was a coastal forces base, HMS Dartmouth III was a training establishment. A later HMS Dartmouth was the reserve fleet's parent ship from 1945 to 1946. BRNC was HMS Dartmouth from 1953 (to free up the name for the Royal Yacht), and still carries the name, though is commonly referred to as 'Dartmouth BRNC'.
