Parramatta First Ship Commissioned into RAN?[edit]

Article states that Parramatta is the first ship commissioned into the RAN. I struggle to see how this can be true as the RAN was given it's title "RAN" in July 1911 and Parramatta was commissioned in 1910. Additionally if we are merely referring to ships in the service of the commonwealth then this is certainly not true as Cerberus and Pioneer to mention just two of the former colonial forces ships were operated by the Commonwealth since the formation of the Commonwealth Naval Forces on 1 March 1901. I think this statement is simply based on Parramatta's Motto "first born of the commonwealth", which it would appear is based on the fact that Parramatta was the first ship built for the commonwealth, and not acquired from the former colonies upon Federation. Good point. Such an assertion (if true) needs a citation, and so I've tagged it with {{fact}}. My advice - if you can't find a reference, then delete the line. Perhaps it was the first modern warship commissioned into the RAN, but I'm no expert on this period and navy. Shem (talk) 10:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully, my edits have been able to clarify. Parramatta was one of the first three new ships ordered for the Commonwealth Naval Forces, and the first of these to be launched. Some incorrect conflation of facts (launched = commissioned, CNF = Australian navy = Royal Australian Navy) could have resulted in the old statement. -- saberwyn 03:11, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think that works much better, and it is referenced clearly. A further question though, do we know when she was given the Prefix "HMAS" was that as soon as she was commissioned into the CNF or was it after the King granted the "Royal" to the Australian navy?AlexanderFrancis (talk) 03:50, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As cited in "Early Career", she was recommissioned with the prefix in March 1911, even though the prefix didn't become official until July (at the same time "Royal Australian Navy" was approved). -- saberwyn 05:20, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
