The article is now functional[edit]

This article has been sitting for about a year as a stub, but now it should be usable.

I would like to disclose that I am a member of the HVTN Community Advisory Board in Seattle, although I did not put this article together on behalf of them, the HVTN, or any other organization. I am just interested in the organization and I put pieces together and cited them as best I could.

This article needs a bit of work[edit]

Rather than edit the live page, I've set up a sandbox, linked above. Anyone interested in improving the article is encouraged to make edits there.

Specifically, I think we can expand on the notable projects that the HVTN has been involved with. Certainly there is more than just the STEP and the vaccine program in Africa; the Network is coordinating 32 facilities in 28 cities, including 15 facilities outside the United States. We don't want a laundry list of projects, but certainly we can come up with more than just the two there now.

Also, I think we should avoid using the Wikipedia a a recruiting tool: that edges into policy violations such as coatracking and conflict Of interest. We can probably get away with noting that the facilities associated with the HVTN are often in need of volunteers or CAB members, and that interested parties can get more information from the HVTN website. I don't think we should go into any more details than that.

Mention of HVTN 505[edit]

Now that the study has been shut down, how do we edit this article? I'm inclined to simply remove the "Current Projects" section entirely. Thoughts? TechBear | Talk | Contributions 13:44, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is not shut down or stopped; it just is not recruiting new participants. The study will continue to conduct scheduled visits for a couple of years. I think that this should be listed as a current project until all the visits of the main study are completed, probably in 2015. However, the article could use more development in lots of ways so if you do not like the current projects section for any reason then things can be renamed or sorted.
