if sukiya is such a major chain, how come i never noticed one? all i ever saw was yoshinoya. 84.56.112.84 (talk) 21:21, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then you weren't paying much attention, because they have over 1000 outlets all around Japan. Jpatokal (talk) 03:58, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That isn't particularly much when you consider how many Family Marts or Mcdonalds there are here :P Sukiya might be more common in certain geographical areas; in downtown Tokyo, Matsuya and Yoshinoya are a lot more common than Sukiya. Personally I mostly stumble across them in suburbs. Southsailor (talk) 13:14, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kanji[edit]

Mind you, I don't write chinese, but as far as I know, both in Japanese and Chinese the character for "well" is 井 and not 丼, I'm not aware of any meaning of 丼 in Chinese.

Southsailor (talk) 13:14, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unihan asserts that the character can mean both. [1] Jpatokal (talk) 05:28, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Title should be Gyūdon[edit]

This should be moved to gyūdon per WP:MOS-JA. -Amake (talk) 11:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've requested a speedy delete on Gyūdon, so we can move this over it. Jpatokal (talk) 12:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it Beef Donburi or not?[edit]

The last sentence of the opening paragraph says Gyū means "cow" or "beef", and don is short for donburi, the Japanese word for "bowl". And Gyūdon is also listed as a variety on the Donburi wiki-page. But I have never ordered Beef Donburi and received a dish that really had any resemblance to the Gyūdon I've always gotten from Yoshinoya. Can anyone explain this? Thanks.
