Who keeps removing the Gwanghwamun with Governor General Building picture?

What does 광화문 mean?

Can someone add to the article what 광화문 means in English? I know 문 means gate; but what does the rest mean? --RisingSunWiki 17:23, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I think it means (using the wiktionary) "Gate of Brilliant Changes"...I don't know for sure; the only hall in Gyeongbokgung with a proper translation is Geunjeongjeon... Heran et Sang'gres (talk) 03:13, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Taking the description off the Korean-language wiki, the name's meaning is that ‘왕의 큰 덕(德)이 온 나라를 비춘다’ -> literally, that the king's virtue illuminates the entire country. (I don't know subtleties, like the symbolism of 'illuminate'.) Translating the hanja, we have "bright/light (광, 光 as in 'optics')-change (as in 재로 화하다 'transform into dust')-gate". So "Gate of Brilliant Changes" is decent, if a bit literal. I think a great translation should capture the original meaning better. Maybe "Gate of Virtuous Light", or "Gate of the Light of Virtuosity". Topquark170 (talk) 05:53, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
