This article ought to be broken up into a biography of Gustavus Franklin Swift and a page on his company Swift & Co.. The corporate history section is incomplete as it stands, and Swift was a big enough meat processor, even after its founder's death, to merit a page on its own. I'll do it myself when I get time if no one volunteers to do themselves. --Diderot 11:43, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

I originally combined two stub articles on Swift and greatly expanded this article to the extent it exists now because I was interested in Swift's contributions to the development of the refrigerator car. The subject as a whole can do with more elaboration—links to such subjects as meat packing industry and Union Stock Yards (even Philip Armour, which I expanded) tie to stub articles. My only objection would be to see either Gustavus Franklin Swift or Swift & Co. end up as "orphans" to the splitting process.--Lordkinbote 17:26, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
I know there is at least one ConAgra brand name that was originally a Swift brand, I imagine there are others. I suspect keeping Swift Co. from being orphaned wouldn't be too hard. But perhaps a separate corporate history makes sense without changing very much here. --Diderot 17:36, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

At a minimum, the article should mention that the company Swift founded is still around. See http://www.swiftbrands.com/index.php --Agent X

Picture Quality

The picture in this article really isn't that good of quality. Can we find another one that will look better? Clarkefreak 03:23, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Operations at six Swift plants suspended: Swift Tue Dec 12, 2006 11:46 AM ET

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Operations are temporarily suspended at the six Swift & Co. meat plants that were searched by U.S. immigration officials early on Tuesday as part of an identity-theft investigation, the company said.

"Operations at the affected Swift facilities have been temporarily suspended pending the anticipated end-of-day completion of the interview process," the company said. "Shortly thereafter, Swift expects to resume operations, but production levels will depend on the number of employees, if any, detained for further interviewing or otherwise unable to return to work."

No civil or criminal charges have been filed against Swift or its employees, the company said.

Swift is privately owned, and industry sources said it is the third-largest producer of both U.S. beef and pork.

Fair use rationale for Image:X-24337.jpg

Image:X-24337.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
