Re Gun Lake/Gunn Lake[edit]

I'd always wondered about the name of this valley and the possibly-related name of Gun Lake, which is to the south in the Bridge River Country near Gold Bridge; on older maps it's spelled with a double-n "Gunn Lake". Now, seeing the name-origin here I'm wondering if there's a connection to this ganin fellow, as the Gun Lake area is within the Chilcotin people's hunting territory in the Bridge River Country, even after hostilities were settled between the Tshilhqot'in and the Lillooets/St'at'imc; the name is as old as the mining rush in the BR or before, and may have been conferred by Hunter Jack, who spoke Chilcotin....I'm just speculating here but if anyone from the Nemaiah area happens to read this I'd be curious as to a response; could this same ganin have also lived/hunted/camped at Gun Lake?Skookum1 (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
