Suggestions for rewrite[edit]

There are numerous grammatical errors in this article, but rather than correct these in the article as it stands, I suggest that the article needs to be substantially restructured and rewritten. Therefore I have added Template:Cleanup rewrite.

This article's first reference, which is also the most-cited reference, is http://trendwatching.com/trends/guiltfreeconsumption/. It is not clear that trendwatching.com is a reliable source: At least two other Wikipedia articles (on foreverism and massculsivity) were deleted for being non-notable neologisms mentioned on trendwatching.com.

I have deleted what was the article's second sentence because its claim that the term guilt-free consumption "was first inspired by the comment made by Gerald Lawless" is completely unsupported by the cited reference or by any other source that I can find. The article on trendwatching.com stated that the article was inspired by Lawless, not the term guilt-free consumption itself. This kind of sloppy misquoting is how misinformation becomes inserted into Wikipedia, and it makes me highly suspicious of the rest of the article.

Given the article's small quantity of references and the over-reliance on the reference from trendwatching.com, my impression is that the article may contain original research that needs to be removed. I suggest that the article should be rewritten in a way that is more succinct and that does not rely so much (or at all) on the reference from trendwatching.com. It appears that plenty of reliable sources seem to be available: see, for example, these search results in Google Books: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22guilt-free+consumption%22&tbm=bks.
