It has been pointed out that the fact that an entire armoured division was created from infantry regiments rather than cavalry regiments ( against British tradition ) suggests the British army was not satisfied with the effectiveness of British armoured units up to this point. 145.253.108.22 14:31, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. In 1941, the time of the division's formation, it's recon was the 2 HCR so it did have a single cavalry regiment (obviously less then other divisions). Considering how the guards at the time had no more then two cavalry regiments (iirc) the division could not have been formed without either drawing on other regular cavalry regiments or converting infantry regiment battalions to the armoured role as was done.
Unless you have some source to go on this is plain speculation. There were only a very limited number of regular army regiments to draw on and an even smaller number of guards regiments. For the full strength of an armoured division of the time (7 armoured regiments or tank batallions) without draining one of the other two regular armoured divisions (1st and 7th) this seems to have been the only logical choice.--Caranorn 13:11, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Cavalry regiments had by that time all been mechanized, hence in order to expand the armoured forces it was necessary to form the additional divisions from other regiments. The British Army had been fully mechanized during the 1930's and by the outbreak of war all the Cavalry regiments were already using either armoured cars or tanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.149.53.142 (talk) 07:59, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
