I have removed the two references to his having a "strong" and "thick" Scottish accent. He does not; it is Americanised Scottish. Most American viewers would struggle to comprehend an authentic Scottish dialect. Epa101 (talk) 14:20, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
there is a difference between the Scottish dialect, and a strong accent. the accent has to do with the pronunciation, while a dialect includes grammatical, vocabulary and other variations. 67.176.160.47 (talk) 06:57, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deaf[edit]

Shouldn't it be mentioned somewhere that Willie is deaf?

--Willie's deafness was a one-episode "joke." Additionally, it should be readily obvious by now that consistency is not something one should look for in The Simpsons' universe. Circumcised?[edit]

I'm 99% sure the quote about Willie's parent's pool table is actually "concieved, raised and educated". If you follow the first external link on the main page they use this version rather than the "concieved, born and circumcised" as it stands on the mian page. Anyone else want to have an input here? I just rewatched the episode now and you're right, the last part is 'educated' (the quote being from Monty Cant Buy Me Love). Real Name[edit]

On tonight's episode (1/25/09), Willie had a flashback to Ellis Island where he called himself "Dr. William MacDougal," however I don't know how accurate that would be since the flashback clearly took place around the turn of the 20th Century and depicted Willie as old as he is in the present. Understanding that this is a cartoon where no one ages though, I just took it for what it's worth.

I did change the initial edit from "or 'Doctor William McDoogle'" to "originally 'Dr. William MacDougal'" though to make it look more authentically Scottish. 66.136.149.140 (talk) 01:28, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to comment that unlike the lamentable "Jeff Albertson" Comic Gook Guy name revelation, this actually kind of made sense...in that they reveal that "Willie"'s full name is "William MacDougal"; thus they actually kept his first name consistent (no shocking revelation or twist) and gave him a reasonable Scottish surname. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 03:53, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This flashback is taking place in the episode XX/9, Lisa the Drama Queen. Dr. William MacDougal's name is changed by the immigration authority on Ellis Island to "Groundskeeper Willie". --Hodsha (talk) 09:47, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Brother?[edit]

Was it only mentioned in that episode? This show is not known for its reliable continuity, so I think it would be best to only add established facts rather than things only mentioned once-off in one episode. If the latter was used, most articles relating to The Simpsons would be inundated with irrelevant facts that have no relevance to the television series as a whole. No no, in the episode referenced above he actaully directly adresses the issue of where he's from, he says something along the lines of, some say I am from Edinburgh, and some say Glasgow, but that is wrong I am from Kirkwall in the Orkneys, the revolation actually sparked a question in the scotish parliament, below is a quote from politicalnote.net:-

Mid-class importance in Scotland?[edit]

A member of WikiProject Scotland tagged the article and assigned its importance. I'm sure you could bring it up with the project if it seems like that much of an injustice.
