About the tags[edit]

Much new material has been added - all of it unsourced and much needing cleanup. Unless reliable sources are added soon I am going to undertake large scale content removal. TerriersFan (talk) 00:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! This thing is completely inappropriate for Wikipedia and is nothing but PR. Most of it needs to be deleted, and only a little should remain, if anything -- pertinent facts only. The entire article is an exact copy of this: http://www.grimethorpeband.com/history_written_history_index.htm.
Bottom line: (1) This article is a promotional device, not an encyclopedia entry. (2) The band's only cliam to noteworthiness in terms of this encyclopedia is that it was featured in the film Brassed Off. This article should really not exist at all, IMO -- a link to the band's offical site should just be added to the Brassed Off page. Softlavender (talk) 19:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This article is completely inappropriate for Wikipedia and is a verbatim copy of PR from the band's own website. Needs to be completely cut and revised as a very short entry, or deleted entirely. No reason for it to be on Wikipedia besides the fact that it was featured on Brassed Off. The link to the band's website will provide all the info that any Wiki reader would need, and that link can be added to the Brassed Off article. Thank you for identifying the copyvio source. I have reverted back to a clean version. I happen to disagree, though, on notability. This is one of the most famous brass bands in the UK. TerriersFan (talk) 20:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome and thanks for the reversion. (I don't live in the UK and so have never heard of the band outside of discussions of Brassed Off. Even if it's famous, how many other brass bands have an article on Wikipedia?) Softlavender (talk) 08:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Read all about them here and here. For other articles see Category:Brass bands. TerriersFan (talk) 18:05, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Grimethorpe Colliery Band are a well-known band, who have had albums featured on Classic FM, have produced compact discs of other music than the soundtrack to the film Brassed Off and were featured on the series which Sue Perkins did about Dillington Brass Band. So please please please - keep this informative article. After all, there are numerous pop groups which are far less well-known which have entries in Wikipedia (please leave a note on my userpage if you wish to get back to me with the names of some). This section needs expanding, perhaps from here. TerriersFan (talk) 22:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
