Military intelligence[edit]

Dodge made serious accomplishments in the field of military intelligence after his promotion at Pea Ridge. He used African American slaves as couriers in Missouri and Tennessee and formed the First Alabama Colored Infantry Regiment. He ran the Military Intelligence Bureau for Grant. Lots of interesting stuff. See the following references: Commanders-in-Chief Biographies and Spying for America: The Hidden History of U.S. Intelligence, by Nathan Miller, pp. 138-140. I'm sure there is more. No time to do it myself, but maybe someone would be interested in filling in the gaps and linking this article to military intelligence history?--Pat (talk) 21:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Family[edit]

Dodge married Ruth Anne Brown of Peru, Iowa on May 28, 1854
They had three daughters. Lettie 1855 Omaha NE, Ella 1858 Council Bluffs IA, and Annie 1866 Council Bluffs IA.

Questions about the Famous Pass Story[edit]

A story running on NPR [morning] casts considerable doubt on the tall tale he tells about the pass he found. The section, marked with Cite Needed for four months now, should probably be couched as a blockquote and chromed with an explanation of why the tale is believed false, according to a credible scholar. See the link above.

As a new user, that is not my place. But I would like to see it done. EnkisJoke (talk) 13:19, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

But no one else seems to be stepping to the fore. Well fine. I'll see what I can do, by and by. EnkisJoke (talk) 02:19, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
