Date of incorporation[edit]

The date of creation for Green Township, NJ is now in question, specifically the exact day. The year of 1824 is correct.

I have a reputable resource, James P. Snell's (1881) History of Sussex and Warren Counties, New Jersey, With Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of its Prominent Men and Pioneers (Centennial ed., Harmony, NJ: Harmony Press, 1981), which says that the date was December 29th, and not the current article's date of the 27th. --A.T. A.T. - I checked my library's copy of "Municipal Incorporations of the State of New Jersey according to Counties" prepared by the Division of Local Government, Department of the Treasury dated December 1, 1958. This publication lists dates of incorporation of each municipality (with some quirks) that are usually reliable. Sometimes there is a pair of dates, whcih results from separate timing of referendums and ratification by the legislature (which doesn't apply for this case). For Green Township, this document lists December 27, 1894, appearing on page 126 of the annals for that year. I haven't seen any other date, so I would accept the date you have as reliable.
