Maybe 'Granny Alina' was telling the truth. She did not claim to be Romanov. She just said that she was a Russian Princess and that her family was murdered in the russian revolution. Some 90% of the russian nobility were murdered during that revoltion, and their were many people who were princes and princesses within russia. However, she never claimed to be Maria. It was her 'grandson' who did so.
