Merger proposal[edit]

I believe this is an uncontroversial proposal, but am prepared to be corrected. Grand Beach (Manitoba) can refer to the geographical feature of the beach itself, or the townsite of cottages as marked on the provincial map, both of which are within the boundaries of Grand Beach Provincial Park. As such the articles will duplicate the same geography, history, demographics and features. The 2011 Census designates Grand Marais/Grand Beach as an Unincorporated Urban Centre, but this hardly seems helpful as an article title. A google search of the gov.mb.ca website returns results exclusively related to the provincial park. nerdgoonrant (talk) 15:31, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that as it stands the two articles overlap and a merge would resolve that issue. I have been working and thinking about the material devoted to Manitoba's protected spaces for the last 3 months - I have most recently been categorizing Manitoba images related to geography in wikimedia as I was struggling to find the images I felt should be present there. I would like to propose instead of a merge that I first rewrite the two articles so that one focuses on the park as a whole and the other on the physical and human history of the beach adding material where available. We can always merge the revised pages later if it still seems appropriate.Felspar13 (talk) 12:59, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
