Andrzejbanas, Tokyogirl79, Lady Lotus: as you can see, I've drafted an article about Gothic film, especially since Gothic fiction has very little to say about films. I thought it worth staking out new territory. As part of this, I am thinking that we could also have Gothic romance film (especially to link to at Crimson Peak) as well as Gothic horror film. Due to the vague nature of the Gothic, I do not find that these should merely be sub-genres falling under this one article. I researched all these topics yesterday and think that we can have an article about each topic, cross-linking where appropriate, though avoiding clear-cut genre language. Gothic romance films, for example, seem strongly centered on the 1940s, with films like Rebecca. Let me know what you think of this proposed arrangement. Also, should I go ahead and move this draft to the mainspace? There's more to do, but I'd rather get this out on the open. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 16:42, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'd like to see one or two more sources here for the general genre just so we can make sure that people wouldn't be able to argue that it could be merged into gothic fiction. I'd also recommend that we hold off on specific sub-genre articles until we beef up the sourcing on this, since establishing this (which I think could warrant its own article) will be the first priority. I'll see what I can find in my college's databases. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:50, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is definitely more out there, but I started with a couple of chapters from different books, fully about this kind of film. Not all pages were viewable, so I kept it introductory (not to mention I didn't have free time all day to draft this). Let me know what you find! • Thanks! I have the BFI book in the "Further reading" section, but it does not appear searchable online. I've also looked at the other source, but it does not use the term "Gothic film" very often, surprisingly. It seems like it is more film noir with Gothic elements. What I've been doing is searching for "gothic film" in Google Books, filtering by year (2015, then 2014, etc.) and looking at the first page or two of results to see what can be referenced in the article. Gothic horror film[edit]

I've gone ahead and pushed Gothic film and Gothic romance film into the mainspace, finding them fairly good starts and useful reads especially for those who plan to see Crimson Peak. I do think we need a Gothic horror film article, but I admit I am not as motivated to do that since it does not seem to apply as much to Crimson Peak.
