Coat of arms / crest[edit]

The fundamental flaw (not with the article), is that all the china pieces show a coat of arms not a crest. It is possible (and has happened in the past) to only be granted a shield. It is not possible to only be granted a crest. So that having been said, when did these china pieces by Goss and others start being called "crested china". They were after all being made at a time when even the common man would have known the difference between a coat of arms and a crest. So how was it originally marketed? We tend to think today, that it is an Americanism to call coats of arms, crests, but is Goss in fact responsible? Kiltpin (talk) 09:28, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
