Accuracy[edit]

As even a cursory sweep of references will easily show, “ gorge” is a term appled as much to permanent works as fieldworks, few of the fortifications of the era of classic trace italienne used double lines of bastions, open-backed outworks were used throughout the era of artillery, “gorge” is used for sides of works that are not open at all, and were sometimes not particularly weak, and, finally, “throat” has more potential metaphorical meanings than “weak point.” Qwirkle (talk) 14:37, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
