I've noted that this article is scheduled for deletion for non-notability very soon. I believe that this is an incorrect deletion, but I do not have time to search for other than internet resources.

Page on Gordon Smith Guitars Shop page on Gordon Smith guitars. Note that it references the USA magazine GuitarMaker. I'll see if I can hunt down that source too.

Damn! GuitaraMaker does not have an online index. I ask that this deletion be given a stay of execution while I contact the company and ask them for information about reviews and publications concerning their guitars. I believe that Gordon Smith Guitars are the No. 1. handcrafted electric guitar maker in the UK, so believe that they justify an article. 80.176.151.208 (talk) 09:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if I establish notability with some references, I'll rewrite the article to be more encyclopedia like, and less like an advert. 80.176.151.208 (talk) 09:18, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll remove the PROD for the moment. Put the info about them being no. 1 etc in the first paragraph, as you've explained well here why you think they're notable, but not in the article. I'll review it in 2 weeks. Boleyn2 (talk) 10:59, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no evidence that they're the preeminant UK producer of hand made electric guitars, so unless I bump into some documentary evidence of this, I wouldn't dream of putting it in the main article. But I might be able to come up with a better reference for notability. 80.176.151.208 (talk) 22:57, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This needs to be cleared up as the tags are still place. Jubilee♫clipman 16:32, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jubilee♫ asked for a clean-up 6 years ago. I assume thate we are keeping GS (and that they are significant)? Can we delete this entry now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PennyDarling (talkcontribs) 21:19, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Basses & Mandolins?[edit]

The current website shows only guitars as production models - perhaps the opening sentence about the company producing basses and mandolins needs alteration? I think they've occasionally made basses in the past, but haven't heard of them producing mandolins. In any case, without supporting evidence, shouldn't the opening sentence be altered? "The British Gibson"[edit]

As noted above, the 'British Gibson' comment has been attributed to the US magazine GuitarMaker, but without details of issue/volume numbers. The magazine is published by the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans. I've contacted them to enquire about the source of the quote and the only recorded reference to Gordon-Smith in their archives is the no. 40, the Winter 2000 issue. It seems likely, or at least possible, that this is the source of the quote, but without access to the magazine to check I can't confirm it, and they don't seem terribly enthusiastic about selling me a back-issue to check. Without the documentary evidence at hand to check, I don't think any of this can be incorporated into the article, but I thought I should post the information here in case anyone else has the ability to follow up and verify. EisenEimer (talk) 18:37, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Got it! The exact quote is "Gordon-Smith Guitars is to England as Gibson is to the United States - the longest running contemporary electric guitar company in England" and it is indeed from the issue of GuitarMaker noted above. I've added the citation to the article accordingly. NB that the article text is not available online, though. EisenEimer (talk) 18:29, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GS up for sale?[edit]

An anon keeps adding ([1][2][3]) a claim to the article that Gordon-Smith Guitars is listed as for sale. I've removed it for now as lacking any reliable sources (the ones provided were anonymous online adverts with no provable connection to the company). In fact, being a rather exceptional claim, it should require multiple high-quality sources, but I've yet to find anything online that would back this up. Can anyone else find something? Indrek (talk) 21:18, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I contacted Gordon-Smith, and they (specifically, Linda Smith) confirmed that they're indeed looking to sell the company. That changes nothing, though - the claim still needs reliable sources if it's to be on Wikipedia; merely being truthful is not enough. Indrek (talk) 18:28, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently GSG has now been acquired by another manufacturer, Auden Guitars. More here. Article has been updated accordingly. I guess that settles this issue. Indrek (talk) 07:36, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sustainable woods ?[edit]

The Ethical Consumer issue quoted is from 2009; and with Gibson being second place winner . Funnily 2009 is the year of the beginning of Gibsons legal troubles with illegaly logged wood use...16:37, 12 November 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:CB14:4DD:C200:5D28:13A3:FFAB:28DA (talk)
