Untitled[edit]

I have noticed that the Hon. Gordon O'Connor wears the insignia of the Order of Military Merit on his lapel. This means that he is intitle to have either C.M.M., O.M.M., or M.M.M., as one of his post-nominal letters. I can not distiguish which levels he has however.

I got it from http://www.gg.ca/honours/search-recherche/honours-desc.asp?lang=e&TypeID=omm&id=254 - he is an officer of the order.

Removed claim about O'Connor[edit]

The following claim was inserted [1] by 131.137.220.46 (an IP address which incidentally belongs to the Department of National Defence):

It was later revealed that Mr. O'Connor had been misinformed from the start and was guilty of no wrongdoing.

The question of his guilt is not one that can be so easily decided. We cannot be confident that he is guilty because we don't know all of what was said, but neither can we conclude he is innocent merely because he was misled, because someone could argue that he "should have known". --Saforrest 17:32, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bias[edit]

I noticed that someone inserted to the end of the Afghan contoversy section something about him being a war hero and that Dion and Layton are yelling at him for bad reasons. Although I do agree with this Wikipedian I must also state that Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral and no bias should be added. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.250.101.101 (talk) 03:24, 28 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Letter to Donald Rumsfeld[edit]

The following paragraph was removed twice by 24.203.83.119, an IP in the Ottawa area, whose sole contributions to Wikipedia has been the removal of the paragraph. I undid it once, labeling it as vandalism, but it was removed a second time. Should this paragraph stay, go, or be modified?

"In December 2006 O'Connor wrote to Donald Rumsfeld praising his "leadership" and seeking "to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your many achievements (sic) as Secretary of Defence, and to recognise the significant contribution you have made in the fight against terrorism". [1]" Hudicourt 06:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again, an anomymous IP, 131.137.220.46 that belongs this time to the Defense Research Establishment, removed this paragraph about Minister Gordon O'Connor's letter to Donald Rumsfeld, without providing any justification for doing so. I re-inserted it for the third time. Hudicourt 09:39, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Curious as to why this particular paragraph is in here. Is it really so significant? Akiracee (talk) 17:32, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • The Jennifer Ditchburn link is dead. I don't see anything in the remaining reference that in fact indicates any critics voicing their concerns about the letter. In retrospect, the letter seems of little import and while it may have been interesting for a brief news cycle, seems to have had any consequences. Remove? Demotion[edit]

Is going from Minister of National Defence to Minister of National Revenue really a "demotion" as today's statement says, or is that someone's opinion?

"... a major cabinet shuffle on August 14, 2007, Prime Minster Harper demoted O'Connor to the position of Minister of National Revenue....". Hudicourt 21:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm adding references justifying the word "demotion", but moving the paragraph out of "Controversy" to the end of "Defence" (as a transition to some future "Revenue" section). In this new location the material flows naturally and speaks for itself, without needing a separating subheading. Hope this meets with everyone's approval.
