National vs sub-national listing/flags[edit]

If we're going to list England/Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland separately, we have to do the same for the cantons of Switzerland, the provinces of the Netherlands, the counties of Ireland, etc. I therefore (quite) strongly recommend putting all United Kingdom locations under 'United Kingdom'.Vlaflipje1982 (talk) 18:20, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly agree. This is not a sporting contest where such teams compete separately, this is a list of places in each country. There is no need for any sub-national split here, and even if there were there would need to be a United Kingdom main heading before the sub-national entities were listed. Areas Included[edit]

I think the 'areas included' section for Europe (and maybe for other continents) should be tidied up because the cities included here seem inconsistent. For example, why are there so many towns included for Romania and only 5 cities for Finland, which has much better coverage? I think we should either only include cities of decent size and coverage on this page or mark the towns where Street View only has limited coverage (e.g. only cross through a main road) in italics or something similar. Flags and names[edit]

User Eugen Simion believes that in the "Timeline of Introductions", we should indicate each country with its flag, instead of its name, like so:

I think this makes things complicated for readers who are not familiar with flags. It would be simpler to just use the country's name. Rather than delete the flags, I edited the article so that the country's name appears next to the flag, like so:

Eugen claims that this is "redundant" and has reverted my edits. He insists that it must be the flag only. We have an impasse.

Eugen, I do not understand your attitude. Please could you answer two questions:

  • Why is it important to use flags instead of names?
  • If it is important to use flags, how do you propose to assist colourblind readers?

My opinion is to put the name of the countries at the bottom of the list like that:

And now we respect also people with colourblind. In fact the if I click the flag, automatically will appear the name of the country. It's unnecessary to put every time on the table the name of the country. Putting the name of the country at the end of the list is unnecessarily confusing. Some of these lists are very long and the user may not notice that the names of the countries are at the end. I still do not understand. Please explain your answer to these questions:
  • Why don't you want to put the names next to the flags? Why is this bad?
  • If you do not want redundancy, why not get rid of the flags and use names instead, since that would be simpler?

I follow your talk page and I realize that you have a problem with the flags. This table exist since 2008. Why it's necessary to change this?...I don't understand! For this time you are the only one. I do not have a problem with the flags. I like them. I like this table. It is useful and interesting. But it is not as clear as it could be because it requires readers to "translate" the flag into the country. The table would be easier to use if the country names were next to the flags.
Can I politely ask you again "Why don't you want to put the country names next to the flags?" This is a very simple and harmless request. It will not destroy the table. I don't understand why it makes you so angry. Cop 663 (talk) 00:11, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Terschelling[edit]

The Dutch island of Terschelling was cancelled after its release, but Street View for Terschelling is online again for a longer time. This is not mentioned, and so I would get the idea that Terschelling has no Street View photos, while they have. OPolkruikenz (talk) July 23, 2012 (UTC 8:26)

Street view in Germany[edit]

Although it states in this article that a selection of major cities have street view available, when you try and use it (in Munich for example) it doesn't appear to be available in either the original or new version of Google earth. Only still images and photos can be displayed of the various sights. For instance, if you try to move the little figure onto the full map of Europe, only blue dots appear in Germany compared to a mass of blue lines for most of the rest of Western Europe. 80.154.120.247 (talk) 12:57, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The politicians are crazy[edit]

Everything removed[edit]

The entire list of places covered by Google Street View in Europe and Google Street View in Asia was removed by User:Staszek Lem claiming lack of references. But the list of covered places had references. On https://www.google.com/maps you can see that listed places are covered or not. This reference was maybe not properly formatted, but that should have been fixed. Now the list is gone, and therefore the reason to have a reference and probably the reason to have the article at all.--BIL (talk) 19:15, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
